Industrial Automation: Sensors and Bus Systems

Wires can be used normally for 20 years. However, if they are not used properly, their lifespan will be gradually reduced. Wires and cables will age after a certain number of years of use. There are many reasons for the aging of wires used in home decoration. How to extend the service life of wires?

The length of the service life of wires depends on the quality of the wires and the environment in which they are installed and used. Wires are mainly insulated by a layer of sheath on the outside. Over time, they are corroded by corrosive gases, and the insulation performance gradually decreases. They slowly age and become hard, brittle or fall off, and then they no longer serve as insulation. The insulation layer on the outside of household wires is mostly made of plastic and rubber. After a long time of use, it will age and lose its insulation function.

It is very dangerous for wires to lose their insulation properties. If two wires touch each other or the live wire touches something connected to the ground, electrical leakage will occur, causing the temperature of the local wire to rise and sparks to be generated. If there are flammable objects near the wires, it is easy to cause ignition and cause a fire. Therefore, we can pay attention to the following points during use, which can also effectively extend the service life of the cable:

(1) Keep electrical wires away from moisture, heat, corrosion or damage.

(2) After a certain number of years of use, electrical wires should be carefully inspected and any defects found should be replaced promptly.

(3) Do not overload electrical wires.

(4) Regularly check the use of electrical equipment and wiring in your home, and perform maintenance and repairs in a timely manner.

(5) If the wiring in old buildings is found to be flooded or wet, especially if the wiring has aged due to disrepair, an electrician should be called in immediately to repair it.

(6) For lines that are easily soaked by floods, electricians should be asked to relocate the lines and take elevated and moisture-proof measures.

(7) If there is a power outage on a rainy day, cut off the power supply immediately and ask an electrician to check the cause.

In daily life, we should take measures to slow down the aging of circuits, take moisture-proof measures for exposed wires, and use wires of different sizes for appliances with different voltage requirements. If you find that the power cord is aging or broken, replace it in time, and the replacement should meet the specifications of the original power cord.
